For this hop, I am giving away a signed copy of Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando's book Roomies. It is signed by both authors.
I just realized I never reviewed this, so here is my review for those of you who might care to know what I think...;)
I was lucky enough to go to a book signing and hear both author's talk about the process of creating Roomies. It was really fascinating because after reading the book I almost didn't believe them when they shared how they wrote this book. Which was pretty much writing chapters to each other back and forth without planning on where the story was going. The fact that they pulled this off so seamlessly is just proof of their mutual talent.
I loved Roomies, it totally took me back to that out of high school-going to college-this is my last summer feeling. Not only was the whole mood spot on, but so was the dynamic between the soon-to-be roommates. The way they reacted to each other in both their lives and in emails was so honest and took me by surprise. Sara Zarr can really do no wrong in my eyes, and Tara Altebrando's chapters were equally delightful. A great collaboration.
BOOK BLURB:
It's time to meet your new roomie.
When East Coast native Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment, she shoots off an e-mail to coordinate the basics: television, microwave, mini-fridge. That first note to San Franciscan Lauren sparks a series of e-mails that alters the landscape of each girl's summer -- and raises questions about how two girls who are so different will ever share a dorm room.
As the countdown to college begins, life at home becomes increasingly complex. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives . . . and each other. Even though they've never met.
National Book Award finalist Sara Zarr and acclaimed author Tara Altebrando join forces for a novel about growing up, leaving home, and getting that one fateful e-mail that assigns your college roommate.

My former roommate snorted a line of sugar. Yes, sugar. Don't ask.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a roommate. I commuted to college :/ I guess I missed out on fun roomie stories
ReplyDeleteMy roommate never did anything weird! Well, she never did anything strange that I'm aware of. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI didn't technically "see" it, but my drunk roommate brought a guy back to our room and, not realizing I was awake, proceeded to have sex with him. By the time I realized what they were doing, it was too late to say anything or get up because then she'd have known I was an unwilling witness. Sure wish I'd had a private room!
ReplyDeletelucky for me i havn't had alot of roomys but the one i had would only let you use pans for certin things so she had like a water pan a rice pan and a egg pan and so on and it got crazy
ReplyDeleteShe got drunk and slept like a cat curled up outside our door because she forgot the key.
ReplyDeleteI never had a roommate, sounds like I may have missed out on some fun.
ReplyDeleteHmm one of my roomies could not stand to have a fan in the room. She didnt like the sounds nor the space it took up. Even if it was blowing at me. It wasn't that wierd, just uncomfortable bc I use the fan to have white noise so I can sleep.
ReplyDeleteMary G Loki
Fortunately or unfortunately, I've never had a roomie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :)
My roommate made me sleep somewhere else because she said I snored too loud and kept her awake. She also complained about the clacking of the keys on my keyboard.
ReplyDeleteI had great roomies; but that's because I'm so boring.
ReplyDeleteMy freshman year roommate was a pathological liar - she said the craziest things!!
ReplyDeleteI never had one so I can't answer that question.
ReplyDeleteI never had a roommate. I lived at home during college and then got married. I'm sure my husband has done a lot of weird things.
ReplyDeleteOh roomies... I've been pretty lucky. The weirdest roomie I ever had in college was my sister. Late nights and boys is all I can say...
